This is the most exciting forecast in some years and I am pleased to offer a long overdue splash of optimism to the coming decade and beyond. It does not make any less serious the colossal problems of climate change and world peace, but hints at two critical energetics meeting head on: Wisdom and Activism.

Both ruled by Saturn the signs of Capricorn and Aquarius embody these qualities. Capricorn = Wisdom and Aquarius = Activism. As we enter 2020 Capricorn is host to Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn, Pluto and Node. Saturn enters Aquarius in March 2020 and Jupiter follows suit in December 2020.

The 2020 chart is also strongly Cardinal which indicates a universal receptivity to move, act and change. The unique opportunity of this Wisdom/Activism alignment is a shift in perspective in how old and young view each other. You could say that the effects of 2,500 years of education may finally be showing up as a super-educated youth capable of matching and exceeding the wit and reason of the world’s leadership.

This year has seen young activist Greta Thunberg adopt an unwavering radical position on climate change who announced today that she plans to return to school in 2020. When asked (BBC Radio 4, 30th December, 2019) if she planned to dedicate her life to climate change, she replied she was too young to know and wanted to return to school, receive an education and lead a normal life. Like most parents, her parents wish the same for her. The entire point of her activism it seems; was to have the right to a ‘normal’ life, to grow up trusting the world she lives in, to understand nature and what it is to be human, and to have the opportunity to be an active member of a democratic society.

These values are the embodiment of Saturn’s maturation process, becoming master of one’s own destiny while at the same time contributing to and sharing the values of society.

Saturn in Capricorn – Mastery of Self, Skills and Organization
The first cycle of maturity comes at approximately 27-29 years of age. The second cycle is around the age of 56 - 60. The third is approximately 84 – 90. Saturn offers humanity three progressive cycles of maturation and three opportunities to weigh up just how we have reaped what we have sown. Saturn reflects our innermost seriousness and with it fears of not measuring up to our youthful hopes and aspirations.

2020 then, invites three generations to come together in the common cause of evaluating how humanity is faring in the maturation process.
  • Some will come out of fear.
  • Some will come out of duty.
  • Some will come out of life experience.
  • Some will come out of curiosity and a readiness for change.
  • Some will come because they want to leave the world a better person.
Not dissimilar to Charles Dickens’ story of ghostly visitations upon Ebenezer Scrooge, Saturn as both the Grim Reaper and the Sage (or Teacher) looks each of us in the eye three times and asks:
  • Who are you?
  • What do you stand for?
  • What will remain after you have gone?
Even the most detached and hardened people are at some point forced to look inside and evaluate.

Unlike Pluto, Saturn does not bring us to our knees but burdens our shoulders with guilt, regret, fear and a feeling of lasting accountability.

Saturn in Aquarius - Organized Wisdom
Aquarius’ Saturn has a scientific and relative approach to life’s problems.  Capricorn’s Saturn is primarily reductive while Aquarius’s Saturn (coupled with Uranus) has a flare for the quantum. Aquarius is the home of quantum physics, artificial intelligence and nanotechnology.

Despite the shared rulership of Saturn, the two signs approach opportunities and problem solving in radically different ways. Capricorn’s institutions tend to layer more rules and reform upon society and commerce while Aquarian entrepreneurs intuitively search out new frontiers in technology, science and free-trade.

Examples of the 2020’s Capricorn and Aquarius Saturn returns are:
  • Increased rules and regulation of the internet and group information controls.
  • Race for ownership of space, outer space and space technology.
  • Commoditization and classification of virtual space and technology.
  • Potential segregation and quasi-colonization of virtual territories.
  • Potential for new cross-generation forums sharing Wisdom and Activism.
  • Potential to work within Capricorn rules in surprisingly creative ways.
  • Radical new nanotechnologies on all fronts.
  • Virtual avatar based education.
  • Sudden and widespread rise of alternatives to fossil fuels.
  • New definitions of ‘freedom’ and ‘identity’.
  • Old world leaders replaced by (very) young ones!

In effect, the same Internet and social media that distributes trivia, entertainment, news and fake news has the potential to host three Saturn-generations of the worlds wisest technologists, economists and futurists with educated and self-educated youth activists. Greta Thunberg is but one of these young people, there are many thousands more willing to take responsibility for themselves and the world they live in. Such forums have the potential to be genuinely beneficial and expand the consciousness of humanity as a whole. This is the offering of the Age of Aquarius.

Uranus in Taurus / Venus in Aquarius - Youth Innovation
The 2020 chart also shows Uranus in Taurus in the 5th house of creativity, procreation and risk taking/speculation. In his book titled Timaeus, Philosopher Plato (circa 428 BC) speaks about the fall of a great civilization (thought to be Atlantis) as it mysteriously sank to the bottom of the ocean under a great Tsunami wave. Lasting stories of Atlantis tell of an advanced civilization that had mastered not only every form of technology and alchemy of the elements, they also mastered the internal technology of meditation, telepathy and teleportation. It is thought that individual powers and sensory experiences took precedence over the well-being of the collective and that not enough eyes were looking in the right direction. Myth or not, the story of Atlantis resonates with all that is afoot today.

Which brings me to the final and very powerful element of the 2020 chart, that of Neptune conjunct the Moon in Pisces in the 6th house of service to others. If everyone serves everyone, then everyone is served. That’s the ‘pay it forward’ principle.

Conclusion
In conclusion, this 2020 chart offers tremendous promise for change on a scale not seen since the recent coming of the World Wide Web (young Saturn) and the ancient disappearance of Atlantis (old Saturn). This may seem like a strange alignment of fact and myth, (though many consider Atlantis to be real), but the themes are palpable:
  • True mastery (Saturn) of inner and outer technology (Saturn/Uranus)
  • Harnessing the lessons of the past as Wisdom and change of behavior (Saturn/Uranus)
  • Harness wisdom and technology to support the Collective and Nature
  • Invite a new approach to commerce and politics – the floor remains wide open.
  • BE EAGER STUDENTS AND PATIENT TEACHERS.
